Gallery1298’s goal is to support our current talented Moroccan artists and welcome future ones onboard.
With an emphasis on contributing to the richness of Charlottesville, Virginia, Gallery1298 also hosts and promotes special events that foster interaction between artists, patrons of the arts, and the general public.
A Moroccan native, Blu grew up in Casablanca before moving to the USA at the age of 20 permanently. He currently lives in Charlottesville, VA. Besides being a passionate travel photographer, he is also an educator and writer.
Growing up, Blu did not own a camera but he appreciated the fabulous black and white work of some street photographers. The pictures depicted various colors, tastes and smells of Casablanca. Some captured pictures of retired men playing checkers using a piece of cardboard and soda bottle caps, Some captured pictures of beautiful veils simply walking, chatting with friends, or just standing. Others captured excited kids in sandals playing soccer using a tennis ball.
For Blu, these pictures did not only depict a slice of his childhood and ordinary aspects of the daily life in his neighborhood. Rather, they also spoke loudly of a certain simplicity, beauty and innocence known beyond borders and cultures. His collection includes pictures from Morocco and various European countries including Ukraine.
